Childcare in different states...

The topic that I’ve chosen was “How is childcare different Is Mississippi from childcare in other states?  I chose this topic because I’m a Mississippi native that’s planning to relocate soon and childcare is a major issue for me having a 2 year old son and expecting a baby girl in October. I have family in many states but I prefer a childcare setting for my kids. As a teacher, I’ve learned that kids learn through play and that they need to grow up around other kids so that they can stimulate their brains and learn from others. Right now, my son is the only child at home with my husband and I, and when we go around other kids, or in public he gets loose on the weekend... He loves to interact with other kids. I plan to find out as much as I can so that my move will be less stressful working about child care.

  1. Hi Chaundrea,
I think that is a great topic, I think child care differs state to state and it would be interesting to see exactly what. NAEYC is a great resource for looking into quality care in different states and to locate accredidated centers. Good luck

  2. From Crista Kirkendall...This is a GREAT topic and something I am interested in also, except Maryland for me. I am planning on starting my family in a couple of years, so that will be more relevant for me then. Also, one reason I am in this program is because if I am not able to work in the public school system anymore, I can open my own daycare or be the director or one. I love hearing about similarities and differences by states. Can't wait to see what you find out and how you feel about it!

  3. Chaundrea,

I think you have a great topic! There is so much to learn from. I am a National Trainer and travel all around the US, and it is amazing how different states view child development. I am from Austin, Texas and even in my state there are different views of child development and quality child care. If you ever have questions let me know, and if I have been there, I will share with some of the conversations that I have had with child development professionals. I look forward to reading your blog, and congrats on your baby girl!
