All About Reserach

First, I would like to say that its being a pleasure working with my colleagues for EDUC 6163. I wish you all nothing but the best and continue strive for greatness. Now I will answer my last questions for this class below.

  • What insights have you gained about research from taking this course? I’ve gained a lot and one insight that I have for sure gained is that research cannot be done overnight. You have to take you time, be prepared and stay focus in order to properly conduct research about a specific topic.

  • In what ways have your ideas about the nature of doing research changed? My ideas and feelings towards research have defiantly changed. At the beginning of the course, I thought I wasn’t going to make to the end but I’ve proven myself wrong because we are summing this course up. The reason my feelings changed towards research is because I was over thinking my research and making it very difficult and hard but in reality it wasn’t hard at all just took time and effort.

  • What lessons about planning, designing, and conducting research in early childhood did you learn? I learned that you have to plan ahead so that when conducting your research you won’t be all over the place trying to get it done.

  • What were some of the challenges you encountered—and in what ways did you meet them? My topic was a challenge at first but I was able to sum my topic up and get to the point I was trying to get to with the help of my professor. It was mostly the wording of my topic.

  • What are some of the ways your perceptions of an early childhood professional have been modified as a result of this course? I can now complete many steps of the research process such as writing a topic, creating a hypothesis, being able to determine different research terms and being on task while conducting this research.

It’s been a Pleasure… J

Exploring website around the world

Learning about childhood education around the world is awesome. I decided to look into the research in Australia. Listed below you will find my questions alone with my response.

v  What are some of the current international research topics? Separation anxiety is a research topic that caught my attention. I never understood why children cry/throw tantrums when parents have to leave them at the school. Getting that experience I know see why. I am a mother of a 2 year old and when dropping him off at school, I think the both of us go through the separation anxiety phase because we’ve never been apart from one another.

v  What surprising facts/insights/new ideas about early childhood did you gain from exploring this international early childhood website? On the website it talks about the severity of separation anxiety. There are two types of separation anxiety and the two types are healthy separation anxiety and separation anxiety disorder. They are similar but have some differences. According to the website each child starts as a healthy separation anxiety and when the child shows extreme symptoms that’s when healthy separation anxiety is considered as separation anxiety disorder.

v  What other noteworthy information did you find on this website? I see that the website offer different books parents that all been quality-assured by early childhood experts. Also, transitioning to school was a topic on the website and it gives parents great advice/fact sheet if help is needed for the big transition.

v  Overall, the website is amazing. I emailed them to let them know how pleased I was while viewing their website and also, I asked if they would send me their monthly newsletter so that I can keep up with what’s going on around the world.

Reserach I would like to conduct

If I was able to conduct research on child the topic I would choose is Low income childcare programs. The reason this will be atopic I choose is because I want to see the difference between Low income programs and regular childcare program? Does teachers treat students the same in the two different programs? The main thing that I will be looking for is making the kids feel safe and also feel loved. Also, I will be expecting all parents with low income to have their children enrolled in this program or added to the waiting list.  I think the positive outcome for this research allowing parent s to see the difference between low income program families and the regular income programs.  Another factor I will be using to research is seeing the difference between regular program and low income programs outside of my current state. I’ve heard several times MS is a late and behind state so I want to compare to see which program is better.

Childcare in different states...

The topic that I’ve chosen was “How is childcare different Is Mississippi from childcare in other states?  I chose this topic because I’m a Mississippi native that’s planning to relocate soon and childcare is a major issue for me having a 2 year old son and expecting a baby girl in October. I have family in many states but I prefer a childcare setting for my kids. As a teacher, I’ve learned that kids learn through play and that they need to grow up around other kids so that they can stimulate their brains and learn from others. Right now, my son is the only child at home with my husband and I, and when we go around other kids, or in public he gets loose on the weekend... He loves to interact with other kids. I plan to find out as much as I can so that my move will be less stressful working about child care.

ECCE

ECCE is a great website for teachers as well as parents. A lot of useful information is presented on this website.

Initiatives for Education for All

UNESCO’s Education Sector has developed or co-developed initiatives in response to the need for sustained and concerted action to address persistent education challenges.

A 10-year UNESCO initiative targeting the 35 countries with 85 per cent of the world's illiterate population (2006-2015).

A UNESCO-led initiative carried out with 10 UN agencies to help governments provide a comprehensive response in the area of HIV and AIDS education.

A UNESCO-led partnership aiming to address the dropout rate of adolescent girls and the scaling up of women’s literacy programs through stronger advocacy and partnerships.

UNESCO played a central role in shaping the overall concept of this five-year initiative, launched in September 2012 to bolster global action on education. UNESCO’s Director-General serves as Executive Secretary of its Steering Committee

All of these are great initiatives and will help betted education.

Sharing website

The Website I chose is the Children's Defense Fund and their link is: http://www.childrensdefense.org/index-1.html, According to the Children's Defense Fund, "The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) is a non-profit child advocacy organization that has worked relentlessly for more than 40 years to ensure a level playing field for all children. We champion policies and programs that lift children out of poverty; protect them from abuse and neglect; and ensure their access to health care, quality education and a moral and spiritual foundation. Supported by foundation and corporate grants and individual donations, CDF advocates nationwide on behalf of children to ensure children are always a priority.” (http://www.childrensdefense.org/index-1.html,). I have not received my newsletter yet. One thing that I like about this organization is that they have a no child left behind policies. This organization believes in giving as many children as the possible can a fair and equal chance at being successful.

Child Development provided by Harvard University

Well unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get in contact with my persons.

Visiting the center of Child Development provided by Harvard University has tons of important facts. Their mission statement is:

The mission of the Center on the Developing Child is to drive science-based innovation that achieves breakthrough outcomes for children facing adversity”.

Listed below are three videos that I watched to see what the different programs had to offer and the description came from the website about the programs.

FIND: Using Science to Coach Caregivers
At Children’s Home Society of Washington, social service providers are using video clips of parents interacting with their young children to help the parents identify their own strengths and learn which interactions best promote healthy development.

This is a good way to keep parents and children connected with interactions. Sometimes children become to grown and don’t want to interact with their parents but if these resources are put out there for the children, they would possible have a different outlook on interacting with their parents.

InBrief: Resilience Series

Reducing the effects of significant adversity on young children’s healthy development is critical to the progress and prosperity of any society. The science of resilience can help us understand why some children do well despite serious adversity.

Pushing Toward Breakthroughs: Using Innovative Practice to Address Toxic Stress

This installment of the multi-part series “Tackling Toxic Stress” describes how a small but growing group of forward-thinking social service practitioners are using the expanding scientific evidence about the long-term, damaging effects of toxic stress to try innovative approaches that target its root causes and could lead to breakthroughs in the effectiveness of interventions—for both children and their caregivers.

When we see the work Stress we often times run from it. But this video shows effective ways of interventions/breakthroughs. When we are children or parents are going through different things, a breakthrough is sometimes needed. But while going through that breakthrough we must know how to conduct ourselves as well as the situation.

Association for Early Childhood International

Association for Early Childhood International is the website I’ve been studying. Ai decided to read on their advocacy program and listed you will find the information pertaining to this program. This is a great website to know about the international about early childhood Explore the website or become a member and you will learn.

Education has a place at the heart of society as an essential vehicle for cultivating intercultural and interdisciplinary understanding and cooperation. Education advocacy can be particularly effective through the use of diplomatic skills within a broader framework of Education Diplomacy—the cross-disciplinary, transnational sharing of theories, ideas, and concepts that advance education. Through Education Diplomacy, we can catalyze education reform and human advancement. It is an approach to the education profession that requires continuous knowledge gathering, creation, and sharing; an awareness of oneself as much as an appreciation of relationships with others; and sensitivity to the contextual and cultural complexities to theory and practice in the field. - See more at: http://acei.org/advocacy/advocacy#sthash.pI0sNIi0.dpuf

Learning More about Hong Kong

The Country I decided to study and get more insight on was Hong Kong. Three things I found interest on the sight was that Every moment of every day, UNICEF is on the ground providing lifesaving help for children in need. This is quiet interesting to me because not everyone believe in helping.
In 2012:
Basic Education: UNICEF helped 3.56 million school-aged children, including adolescents, accessing formal and non-formal basic education (including temporary learning spaces and play and early learning for young children). I like to see children that want to learn and want help be able to get help to continue their education.

Child-friendly Schools: Over 120 countries reported that they have developed or are developing quality standards based on UNICEF’s child-friendly schools initiative or similar approaches.

Education Policy: With UNICEF support, 73 countries have put in place national policies on universal school readiness and 63 countries have developed standards for early learning and development.

All information was obtain from the website provided. Feel free to visit this website to check out other things that may catch your eyes. (http://www.unicef.org/socialpolicy/index_childpoverty.html),

Exploring the Acei website

ACEI is the website I decided to explore and learn new things. This website is an internationally website that focus mainly on children education their mission statement is to promote and support the optimal education, development, and well-being of children worldwide. We have consultative status with the United Nations. After exploring the website, I learned that no matter where you live you still deserves equal chances in education. This website has so much to offer and you will learn a lot. Something that caught my eye was the article Kidnapping of Schoolgirls in Nigeria. This caught my eye because kidnapping is getting outrageous around the world. After reading the article it wasn’t just one girl it was 200+ girls. How was that possible? Was this planned? How could you get away with all these girls and no one notice? All of these would be questions I would ask. Please go to the website below and explore.
